HUMILITY

August 27, 2026

The spiritual principle in Step Seven of the 12 Steps is humility.

STEP SEVEN: Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Humility is one of the most challenging qualities a person can achieve. In a world that celebrates pride, self-promotion, and personal achievement, choosing humility requires intentionality and spiritual discipline.

God enables us to see our sin, detest our sin, desire its removal, and enable its removal. Only His power can change us. God will perform spiritual surgery and remove the impulse to sin and our defects of character and shortcomings—even those we want to keep!

Too often our prayers are selfish, prayed with little thought. Such prayers have little likelihood of being granted. We need to ask for God’s will on whatever we ask for in prayer.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less and recognizing your dependence on God. It opens the heart to God’s guidance, allows for genuine relationships, and fosters peace within.

Be humble.

Pray.

Breathe.

John 3:30

“He must become greater; I must become less.”
